I have been been daily driving my Subaru since 2006 when I got it. Its a super fun car but im lucky if I manage to get 20mpg, and the speed is a good way of getting me in trouble.
I picked up this 2000 Beetle TDi recently to fix this problem. Its got 108k Miles and just had the Timing Belt and Water pump replaced. At 108k miles a diesel engine is just getting broken in. With normal driving I have been able to get decent mileage (~40mpg). While thats already double the STi, I knew I could do better…
Enter Hypermilling: The art of driving a car efficiently to achieve high MPG. With nothing but a stock VW, I have manage around 55mpg calculated by head, but thats not unheard of in TDis. I can do better.
Its starting to feel like a fun game trying to get higher then that, not to mention the added benefits of not getting pulled over for speeding. So far all I have done to attempt to raise fuel milage is correct my tire pressure. I purchased a mobile air compressor with a gauge so I can keep them perfect no matter where Im at. I just did this today so cant tell any increase yet.
I also have a Vacumm gauge to install once I can find time to tap my inter cooler pipe.
To add a fun factor to the MPG game, I ordered a Kiwi MPG gauge so I can keep track of how good im doing.
Ill report back later when I have a chance to get everything Installed.
Stay Tuned…
